While Viquesney produced many popular military-themed
statuettes, only three are known to have been produced that sold more than one copy as publicly displayed, large memorial
monuments: His original hugely successful "Spirit of the American Doughboy", which sold at least 140 copies; his "Spirit of the American Navy", meant to be a companion piece to the Doughboy, but selling only seven units; and this World War II piece, titled "The Spirit of the Fighting Yank", which, despite Viquesney's belief that it would someday greatly outstrip his famous WWI Doughboy memorial in popularity,
is known to occur in only five cities.

them.
Although "The Spirit of the Fighting Yank" was Viquesney's
last publicly displayed war memorial, his actual last piece was a miniature titled "Comrades", an allegory depicting a WWI Doughboy greeting his WWII GI counterpart with
a handshake.
